It was great to go to my first IET event about 4G and the development of the UK’s mobile phone networks at Westlakes Science and Technology Park on Thursday. The next event is ‘The Future of Robotic Surgery‘ and is on March the 20th, also at Westlakes. It is open to the public as well as IET members.

I re-joined the BCS this week. I was a member when I was at university. As they are one of the driving forces behind Computing at School and one of the professional bodies of the IT sector I thought I would join. They also offer information, advice, networking, and training opportunities for members. Sadly the nearest branch I can find is in Preston.

I have been finding out how businesses use IT and how it changes their businesses. I have found an open source software package called OpenERP that offers many of the features businesses need. The main company OpenERP S.A. is interested in OpenERP being used in schools and universities to allow students an incite into both the IT systems and business processes used today.
